Create An Activity

All users of the Homeschool HQ app can add their own custom content to the app.  We encourage you to add your own co-ops, activities, clubs, etc  This app is for you to build and grow your own homeschool community.

There are many different resources you can add, but they all are very similar.  For this demonstration, we will add an Activity.

Step 1: Touch the Add Icon

From the home page, you can see a series of four icons at the bottom of the screen.  Touch the "Add" icon second from the right.

Step 2: Select Activity

Touching the "Add" icon on the home screen will open up the resource selection screen.  Here you will find all the different types of resources that can be added to the app.  For our example we will select "Activity" at the top left of the screen.

Step 3: Add a Photo

Selecting "Activity" on the add resource screen will open the "Add Activity" screen.  Here you will find all of the different types of details about your activity.

The first thing you can do is add a photo.  Just click the image icon and you will be prompted to either take a new picture or select one from your image gallery.  Once you select your image it will be loaded into the screen.

If you don't want to add an image, or don't have one, you can leave this blank and a default image will show up in the Activity List.

Step 4: Add a Name

The name of Your activity will display alongside your chosen image in the Activity list for people to see.  Make sure your name is descriptive for the event that you are adding.

Step 5: Select an Activity Type

After you enter a name, you will need to select an activity type.  Click on the dropdown box below the name and a menu will appear.  There are a number of categories to choose from.  If you don't see your specific activity type, you can always choose "other" and send us an email at info@homeschoolhq.com to suggest a new activity type category.

Step 6: Add a Start and End Time

When you touch either the "Start Date and Time" or "End Date and Time" Items  calendar control will appear.  The screenshot is how it appears on an Android phone.  On an I-Phone it will look different.

Select the start date and end date for your activity.

Step 7: Choose a Location

The location box is tied to Google Maps.  You can start typing an address and it will begin to show you locations that match your address.  You can either type in a complete address, or just select a City and State.  In some cases you can type in the name of the location, like a park or a museum, and the app will provide you with possible locations.

Step 8: Provide Age Ranges and Contact Information

Since homeschooling is for all ages, events can often be a free for all.  Sometimes, however, you will want to hold events for a specific age range.  Select the appropriate ages for your event.  You can choose Age Range, Grade Range, or both.

Fill in any pertinent contact information you have for the event.  When you are done, touch the "Next" button at the bottom of the screen.

Step 9: Review Your Activity

After touching the "Next" button, you will be taken to the Review Screen.  Here you will have an opportunity to review how your activity will look to other users of the app.

Take the opportunity to check that your details are correct and that you haven't misspelled anything.

Step 10: Submit Your Activity

If your review of your activity finds something wrong, or you want to change something about the details, you can touch the "Edit" button at the bottom of the screen to make your changes.  If you have changed you mind about adding this activity, you can touch the "Delete" button to erase everything.

When you are satisfied that your activity is ready to be published you can touch the "Submit" button to publish your activity.

Step 11: Check to See if Your Activity Posted Correctly

After touching the "Submit" button you will be taken to the main resource list.  Here you can choose a resource to view activities and other resources posted by other users.

Touch the "Activities" button to be taken to the Activities resource list.

Step 12: Success!

Activities and other resources are sorted by distance to your location.  Scroll down the list of activities until you find yours.  Or you can use the search box to search for the name of your activity.

Congratulations!  You are now a content creator for the Homeschool HQ app!  Welcome to the team!
